In one of the coolest locations in the Netherlands with a line-up of interesting speakers and a magnificent exhibition by the world-famous artist Ronald Westerhuis, we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic.
The Netherlands China Association (VNC) and the Netherlands China Business Council (NCBC) are joining forces to bring together as many Dutch and Chinese professionals who deal with China on a daily basis as possible for an unforgettable networking drink. Be welcome!
On October 3, you will be welcomed in the Koelwaterhal in Zwolle, an industrial national monument with a fantastic interior. Our hostesses will welcome you with a welcome drink and guide you to the large hall where you can marvel at the exhibition TO BUILD A BRIDGE BETWEEN CHINA AND THE NETHERLANDS by Ronald Westerhuis and Chinese artists. The exhibition aims to celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of China and the Netherlands by showcasing the work of artists whose work maintains a deep connection between ancient cultures and contemporary art practices.
We will then give the floor to two special speakers. Rob Berkel, author of the book Chinese schetsen, will use a lot of unique photo and film material to take us back to the moment when Mao Zedong proclaimed the People’s Republic on that Saturday afternoon, October 1, 1949.
Then the enthusiastic sinologist Carwyn Morris (Leiden University Assistant Professor of Digital China) will give us an insight into the digital social life of the Chinese, with many examples and images he shows what is hot on the internet in China. Finally, we hope to raise a glass together with the ambassador of China, His Excellency Tan Jian, to the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic. Afterwards there will be plenty of opportunity to talk to new and old friends. We will provide the drinks, snacks and surprising entertainment.
